Anyone have a good idea of how to repair the floor boards in a CJ3A? I bought one last year, it has a panel on top but when you get underneath, you can see the floors on both sides are gone. I'm thinking a sandwich type deal with the panel that's already installed will prevent more rust from forming and it'll give it more stability. And, does anyone know if I can get diamond plate floor boards anywhere?

Thanks,
Romy

HI;

I'm sure Tim will have some ideas for you. He will be on this computer in the next several hours. I forward him this post, so you should see a response from him later this evening.

Romy; You can BUY replacement floor panels and hat channel and weld it in. Diamond plate is not very original and you want to avoid it. Just cut out the old and if you cant do it, get someone with a wire feed MIG to install it. Better to restore than butcher!

Jeep Parts Plus out of Maine has what I think are the best combo of price and accuracy. You can get one the floor boards with the hat channel already on and wood in place, or if they are not too bad, cut out the bad and patch in new steel. A mig welder works well for this. The big pain is the transmission hump. No one that I've found sells that piece. I used a chunk of rectangular tubing cut and welded in place, as seen here. This is also the stuff I put inside my hat channel.
