Hi All,

My mechanic has finally decided to sell me the Jeep Willys he has abandoned in the backyard. The car is in Tuscany, Italy.. and probably has been here since you guys came so save us in the fourties :)

Before buying, I was wondering if you could give me some advice. I understand the engine is not original but I have found various original engines for sale over internet. The car comes with documents and registration papers.

Here are some pictures of the car. Any advice would be highly appreciated, consider I know very little on the M38 ;)

Thanks
Ale

Hi, and welcome to the site. I think if you dig you will find it is a WWII Willys MB or Ford GPW....Check the front crossmember behind the grille, a round crossmember is signs of it being a MB, an inverted u shaped one is Ford. A M-38 would not have the glovebox and grille you show in your pictures, and looks more like a CJ2A.

You may want to investigate Ren Bernier's book on the WWII jeep. Google his name, you'll find it.

So nice to see a MB diesel motor installed. Is not original, however proves creative minds out there. Can you give info on adapter to transmission(photo)?

Great condition, wondering about axe/shovel indents on drivers side, possible early CJ2A?
