I am working on brining this willys cj-5 back from the dead and have a brake delema. This truck is a cj but was a military vehicle so I am not sure if the brake specifications are different or the same as the civilian jeeps of the same year. I need to rebuild the back brakes and opened them up to have a look, I measured the drum and it was closer to 10" than 9". when I have been looking for shoes and cilinders on line some sites say this year is a 9" and others say 65-67 are 10". and I haven't removed a cilinder yet to see if they are 1" or 3/4". should the drum mesure exact 9" or 10" across?

Pretty sure 9 inchers are 9 inch and ten inchers are 10....do you have the same size brakes on both ends?

When you say it was a military vehicle, does it have a military data plate on the dash still? Is it a M-38-A1 and not an actual CJ5? Or was it a CJ5 that was used at a milatary base, and only has a military property number and not the standard military data plate which lists TM numbers etc??

In any case, pictures of the axles and brakes may help us ID them for you.

Also when measuring drums the inner diameter is what you are supposed to be measuring.. A 9 inch drum's outside diameter may be closer to ten inches..
