What year is my engine, SN 18590? It has a timing chain not timing gear on cam drive. It is in my 1946 CJ2A Willys Jeep with column shifter.

My 1946 cj2a with colum shift also has chain driven cam. I believe my engine is original

What is your jeep's serial number. It is quite possible you do have the original engine. They still used chain drive in the early ones.

That does seem a little high for the correct engine.. Normally the engine numbers were higher than the actual jeep numbers...I have a jeep your engine would be a lot closer to correct in., I would suggest you contact Sean at the 2a page for a correct engine number range for your jeep. He has a pretty complete database of the 2A models and a very good handle on what is correct for a range of SN's....www.thecj2apage.com then look for posts by Sean. PM him or post a question.
