Hey guys, new here, so I hope I'm posting in the right spot. I have a 1957 Willys Jeep, I'm not sure exactly what else to call it if there are multiple kinds out there or w/e. I have a lot of play in my steering wheel, was wondering what I can do to adjust it and make it more precise without doing a steering rebuild. Other than the battery, tires, and front bumper (my bad), it's all original and just continues to run. I'll rebuild it when (if) it ever dies. Thanks for the help.

Hello;
Unfortunately, there are not many easy fixes for the steering assembly. The quick and easy is to install a steering stabilizer (shock absorber) on the front. If ball joints are worn and the pitman arm bearings are shot, then you need new parts.
The steering gear box is an easy rebuild, but does necessitate removal. This is most often the culprit. Adjusting the drag link on it is not a good move to dampen the steering. Have someone turn the steering wheel while you watch the arm on the steering box. Grab it and see if its loose or the travel is out of round. You can possibly adjust the tie rods to give a little more tightness. Often this box was not lubricated properly.
If you need detailed repair instructions ,please write again. Toss up some pictures when you get a chance.
